A
Latina Stand-up Comedian …The Hip Hop soccer mom!!!
A
veteran of comedy in the New York city clubs she says, “I’m energized with the
excitement that goes on in the moment between myself and my audiences!,
”Peaches, her real name, Mariette, really got her start in
show
business as a BREAK-dancer in feature films like “Beat Street” and numerous MTV
music videos.
She
turned to comedy only after a knee injury forced her out of dancing. In the
late 90’s Rodriguez joined an Improv group “Improv This!” and also took
comedy-writing classes. Eventually, she decided to embark on a full time career
as a stand-up comic.
Using her past experience as a dancer, Rodriguez
re-funneled that powerful energy into comedy, which has proven to work very
well for her. She quickly became one of the most popular comics in New York
City and has been featured in many national TV shows and Festivals. She’s hugely popular with Colleges as well.I
never thought that anything I was saying would ever be relevant to colleges,
but I recently played SUNY Purchase in upstate NY and got a standing ovation! Somehow,
what I’ve been saying seems to resonate with younger audiences. Maybe it’s
because what I’m doing just cuts right through to the absolute truth! and they
recognize it immediately and love it.
A
HIGHPOINT AND STAMP OF APPROVAL.- A while back Dave Chappelle said, “Man,
you’re really funny! You better keep performing ‘cause there are not many
Latinas that do what you do!”That
made me really proud coming from him. Indeed she has done well on this
advice. Everywhere Peaches performs, she
is requested back on all of her engagements!
Needless to say....Her career is Rocking!!!
GIVING
BACK TO THE U.S.O. FOR THE TROOPS-
Peaches has also been well received overseas.
A few summers ago she
traveled to the Middle East where she volunteered for the USO comedy tour to
support our troops. She helped keep our troops in good spirits by spreading her
laughter throughout Afghanistan, Qatar, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.
Peaches
quoted: “Touring for the USO is the most
rewarding and emotional tour I have ever worked...the appreciation we get from
the troops is deeply moving.
”INFLUENCES: Some
of Peaches’ inspirations have come from comedians such as Dave Chappell, Chris
Rock, Freddie Prinze Classic SNL, Mad TV, and not to mention HBO’s brilliant
“Curb your enthusiasm”.
