In four short years as a comedian, Gloria Bigelow has filmed three comedy specials for television.Bitten by the comedy bug after moving to New York, Glo, as she is called, seamlessly slipped into the world of comedy. She is seen at all of the top comedy clubs including The Improv, New York Comedy Club, Stand-Up New York, Comix, The Broadway Comedy Club, The Laugh Factory and Gotham Comedy Club. Picked up from a performance at the Improv, Gloria was the featured MC of the New York Comedy Expo opening for the finalist of the National Laugh Across America Competition. Glo has performed in numerous festivals including the Outlaugh Comedy Festival, Michigan Gay and Lesbian Comedyfest and the New York Underground Comedy Festival.
Gloria was born in Pittsburgh, PA and was raised in a “shockingly white” suburb where she skied, played tennis, and went to the tanning salon. At the age of 15, she moved to South Carolina, learned that she was black and cut out the trips to Golden Tan. She attended Spelman College — because her parents didn’t think that she was quite black enough. While at Spelman she majored in Drama — and minored in more drama. Her MFA in acting is from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She now lives in Los Angeles, CA with her dog Niles and her cat Misu.
As well as comedy specials, Gloria has had appearances on The Rachel Ray Show, Lifetimes Cook Yourself Thin, and LOGO’s NewNowNext Awards.
Glo is a crowd favorite where ever she steps onto the stage — from college campuses to comedy clubs — Glo’s witty and honest brand of humor keeps her audiences laughing, thinking and wanting more.
