April Brucker is a twenty-two year old actress/ writer/ standup comedian/ ventriloquist/ voice artist based in the heart of New York City. This 5'4" dynamo’s 110 pound body is home to approximately 50 voices, many of which she uses in her act. Skilled as both a regular stand up comedian as well as a ventriloquist, April appears around New York City as herself and sometimes accompanied with her badly behaved blonde look-a-like puppet side kick May, performing their original and brutally honest brand of comedy. With an act that can boast of both good writing and good delivery, April has appeared at such Clubs as Pips (April’s home club and the toughest room in NYC before it’s closing.) She was the first comedian in the clubs history to be passed on her first night. In addition, April has appeared at New York Comedy Club, Boston Comedy Club, Sal’s Comedy Hole (featured comedian), Underground Lounge (featured comedian), The Laugh Lounge, Nelani’s Night Club, the Telephone Bar, The Peoples Improv Theatre, The Improv, RB’s West Side, The Comedy Cellar, the Village Lantern, Fat Cats, Juvie Hall and many others.
April also has also performed at many clubs outside of NYC. In New Jersey April has played the Comedy Shoppe Freehold, the Edison Playhouse, The Clifton Moose Lodge, Carucci’s in Arlington, and Uncle Vinnie’s Comedy Club in Point Pleasant Beach. In Pennsylvania April has appeared at the Pittsburgh Funny Bone and the Comedy Zone Harrisburg. In addition, she served as entertainment for the Western Pennsylvania Mensa Society as well as the Pittsburgh Red Hat Society, the largest chapter in the area. April has also featured at the Ice House in Omaha, Nebraska, becoming the youngest person to do so. As well, she had headlined in Danbury, CT and has featured at the Hard Hat in North Haven and the Tobacco Shed in Windsor.
As a live entertainer April has served as the opening act for Otto and George (Howard Stern, the Aristocrats, HBO’s Dirtiest Dozen), and has been featured alongside Chips Clooney (Las Vegas Headliner, Mentor to David Copperfield), Rick Shapiro (HBO),Jay Johnson (Two and Only, TV’s Soap), and David Newell (Mr. McFeeley of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood), Pat O’Donnell (The Tonight Show), Dan Still (National Touring Headliner) and others.
April also possesses international credits having been celebrity guest entertainer at Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. As well, April has brought her talents to nursing homes doing shows for Alzheimers Patients. She has also done shows for children with autism. This past year April broke audience barriers by doing shows with a sign language interpreter for a deaf audience.
In addition to being an accomplished live entertainer April hosts, writes, and produces Storytime With April and Friends. This children’s show features April and side-kick Sweetie Pie (an absent minded six year old clown puppet) reading bed time stories to children worldwide. Storytime also features Cinnamon Toast (chef who insists on putting cinnamon on everything), Ham Piglet (agoraphobic actor), and Mr. Fox (Fox who is always hungry). The show airs in 36 states, 6 countries, and the world wide web. April is also listed in the New York City TV Guide. She can boast of being the first American Program in South Korea’s Public TV Library as well as the first American on her “pet” TV Station in Australia. April’s programs have also been broadcast on public television in Capetown, South Africa. But one of her most remarkable achievements has been performing live at Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where her performance was broadcast city wide.
As well as being a children’s performer April is a seasoned on air personality. Hosting Apriltalk on her local public access station in Bethel Park, PA, April interviewed local luminaries and entertainers in a show that was a mix between Oprah, Rosie O’Donnell, and Jay Leno. The show featured District Attorney Stephen Zappala, Senator Tim Murphy, The Pittsburgh River Hounds and many other local figures and talents. Another part of the show featured April’s sketch characters, her most famous being Callista Coffin: Beautician for the Dead. Callista Coffin was featured and reviewed in Canada’s Rue Morgue Magazine. April also hosted Aprilrock, a show featuring local rock bands, that was broadcast to the greater Pittsburgh area. Guests included the Berlin Project (Vans Warped Tour) and MB Blackwell (Top Ten Hit England), and the Traditionals (Openers for the Clarks).
April is also an accomplished actress. New York stage credits include performing with the Obie Award winning 13th Street Theatre as well as doing improv with both Eight is Never Enough and the Upright Citizens Brigade. In addition, April has also been featured as a part of Reality Aside Theatre’s Production of Murder Me Always as both the Cab Driver and the Nutty Femme Fatal Wanda Hawthorne. In addition, Ms. Brucker has appeared the the Nuyorican Poet’s Café in Keepin It Unreal where she originated the role of Jenny. As well, her one woman shows, April’s Room and the World According to April have appeared at both the Eagles Dare Theatre as well as the Sidewalk Café.
Film credits include the independent film The Chairman, directed by Pamela Love, which has won awards in both Hungry and Belgium; Interview in Studio B which won several NYU Student Awards; and bothInterview with Johann and Mad Christmas which were both shown at the NYU Best Student Short Film Night. This past year April also starred in the farce, Deep Digit, which was broadcast and shown world wide on YouTube. In addition, April starred in Kissing for Cash, directed by Aaron Haber, which appeared as part of the E-Coupons Comedy Series.
April has several television credits under her belt including an appearance on NBC’s the West Wing,an internet streamed USO show onwww.karpool.tv, a comedian/guest panelist on MNN’s Kestabe World, and performing her puppet act on Chicago’s Baby Sam Show. April most recently appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing 4 and 5 as a comedian in the commercial for the NY segment.
April also uses her comedic and acting talents as a skilled impersonator. Impersonations include Mae West, Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, Cyndi Lauper and many others. April performs these impersonations annually to promote the Fusion Film Festival which celebrates women in film.
As well as working as an actress in theatre and film, April has lent her talents performing Balinese Shadow puppetry as well as hand and rod puppetry in various projects. April’s work can be seen in the award winning Land of Letters.
April also works as a voice-over artist. She has played Samantha the deranged psychic for Mancow’s Morning Madness a dozen times. This character, who accuses Mancow of killing her daughter over thirty years ago, infamously clogged up phone lines and won the support of listeners everywhere. Other radio appearances include Sexfiles and Devoreand Diana on Maxim Sirius Radio as well as the Danny Lobell Showon 83.7 FM.In addition, April is also the voice for the Israeli software company Officepax. Also an accomplished writer, April has over 100 articles published and is the recipient of both the Quill and Scroll and Golden Quill Awards. She was a regular columnist for both the Next Generation and Almanac Newspapers. Her writing has also been featured in the Pittsburgh’s Observer Reporter, Post Gazette and theTribune Review. She also writes her own material and has written over 30 movie scripts to date. In addition, April recently had a joke of hers published in the New York Post. As well as her own act, April writes from time to time for other comedians. Several of her jokes have been selected as part of Judy Brown’s new book set for release in Fall 2007. April also has had other bits featured on KRock radio.
April has just graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and plans on premiering her one woman show as well as selling her CD in 2007. There will also be national and international tour dates.
